Intercultural Studies

Cultural and language differences shape the everyday life of individuals and organisations in our increasingly interdependent and transnational world. These cultural and language entanglements include different histories and conflicts and are represented in different media and literatures. The increased interconnectivity and transnational mobility of both people and mediated information demand new sensitivities and skills to understand, analyse, and negotiate cultural difference. The Intercultural Studies program prepares students to analyse different contemporary contexts of identity negotiation and interaction, and to engage in planning for professional interaction in globalising spaces while enhancing language competences. Students can choose from four different tracks: Intercultural Studies (English) Intercultural Studies (French) Intercultural Studies (German) Intercultural Studies (Latin America and Spain) STUDY PROFILE The program develops students’ knowledge on diverse conceptualisations of culture and the rich potentials of cultural differences while sharpening language skills to enable intercultural dialogue and collaboration in a global world. The program also contains practical components for students to develop their competences in working innovatively on intercultural issues within and beyond organisations. PROGRAMME STRUCTURE The four different foreign-language combinations follow a similar basic structure, but address interculturality within specific historical and societal contexts related to the English, French, German and Spanish languages. The English track is taught exclusively in English while the other three tracks are taught both in English and in French, German and Spanish respectively. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION In general, admission to a master’s degree programme requires successful completion of a relevant and recognised university degree equivalent to a Danish bachelor’s degree in level and length (180 ECTS). In addition, you must meet the specific requirements for the individual programme, including language requirements.
