Classical Musician - Performer, chamber- and orchestra Musician is a diploma programme lasting 2 years, taught in English at Danish National Academy of Music in Esbjerg.

Program overview

The advanced postgraduate diploma programme focusses on interpretation and musical contemplation with a view to developing soloist competences and stage skills at the highest international artistic level. In addition to instrumental/vocal teaching and participation in international masterclasses and possible international competitions, the programme also seeks to develop the students’ chamber music skills. SDMK in Odense offers study programmes with a main focus on performing arts practice. We aim to give you the instrumental/vocal competences that will make up the foundation of your future life as a musician. We focus on your artistic personality through qualified teaching in e.g. scenic awareness, chamber music/ensemble singing, cross-disciplinary collaboration, basic repertoire knowledge etc. The teaching is undertaken by SDMK’s permanent teaching staff and supplemented with masterclasses with competent national and international soloists and ensembles. If you play an orchestra instrument, you can also look forward to activities at the future Carl Nielsen Orchestra Academy conducted in collaboration with Odense Symphony Orchestra, competition training in front of a professional jury and concerts with the Danish National Academy of Music’s own chamber orchestra. If you are a singer, you can look forward to getting an education that places emphasis on basic musical dramatic skills in close collaboration with teachers and instructors at the Danish National School of Performing Arts. In connection with masterclasses and concerts you will get a chance to test audition techniques, and as part of the study programme you can get choir experience at concerts with Odense Symphony Orchestra. Together with fellow students at SDMK, pianists will get a chance to participate in exciting chamber music projects, among other things, which are presented at the SDMK annual chamber music festival in November. Students of classical music at SDMK are expected to be aware of their role as communicators of music to their audience as well as to the children and youth who represent the future in music. Therefore, you will receive teaching in practical and theoretical pedagogy, both in traditional class teaching and in masterclasses.
